Continental Colorcraft Wins Prestigious SAPPI North American Printer of the Year Award

Coffee Table Book “Eye for the Sensual” recognized by SAPPI Fine Paper NA

Monterey Park, CA, June 7, 2011 – Continental Colorcraft today announced that it has won the coveted title of Gold Winner in the 14th Sappi Fine Paper North American Printer of the Year Competition. Sappi’s Printer of the Year awards recognize print excellence and innovation produced on Sappi paper in ten categories of work

.
“Sappi remains committed to promoting the vitality and relevance of the printed image in innovative ways, and this includes the long-standing Printers of the Year competition,” said Jennifer Miller, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Sappi Fine Paper North America. “The craftsmanship and innovation demonstrated by our gold winners is an outstanding example of why print remains a vital communication medium.”

Printing companies from all over the United States and Canada entered over 2,100 pieces in 10 different categories. A panel of highly regarded print professionals judged the entries on the overall impact of the piece, degree of difficulty in printing techniques, and technical excellence. The judges picked the “best of the best” in each category as the Gold Winner - North American Printer of the Year.

“Eye for the Sensual” is a 305 page hard bound coffee table book that exquisitely showcases works of art in the Resnick Collection that were exhibited at the opening of the Lynda and Steward Resnick Exhibition Pavilion at Los Angeles County Museum of Art last October. The book also equally showcases various printing techniques that entertain the reader such as embossed bookmarks on silk ribbons stitched into the hard cover binding; gold foil stamping on parchment; a fold back reveal of one of the paintings behind an embossed, foil-stamped paneled door; not to mention fine stochastic printing of ink on paper.

“The recognition of this award highlights the fact that high quality printing is still in demand,” said Andrew Scheidegger, Chief Executive Officer and President, Continental Colorcraft. “We are inspired to carry on the legacy of the great historical print houses of Los Angeles such as George Rice & Sons and Anderson Lithograph. At a time when printing is often thought of as just another commodity, we feel there is still a place in the market for true craftsmanship, where detail and color still matter.”

Gold Winners of Sappi North America Printer of the Year will compete later this year against the winners from Africa, Europe and the Sappi Trading Region (Asia, Australia, Central America and South America) for the Sappi International Printers of the Year awards, regarded as the world’s most respected accolade in printed communications.

“We are honored to have again won this prestigious award in the company of such fine printers,” stated Linda Kristensen Clarke, owner, Continental Colorcraft. “It is a testament to the commitment to quality and close collaboration between the client and every employee at Continental.” Continental Colorcraft had taken home an International Gold in 2008 and had also captured 4 silvers and 5 bronzes during the last six years.
